2010 Workshops
March 26-28, Eight A Day Meditations and Variations, LaConner WA: Let Marla be your guide in meditations and variations for three days. Move past resistance and hesitation. Finding freedom in the mileage gained by working on multiple pieces of the same composition. Over the course of this three day workshop we'll use the fundamentals of painting as the foundation and jumping off point. We'll explore the lessons that can be gleaned from delving deeply into a theme and repeating it. Some mixed media techniques will be employed to foster a playful approach. August 9-13, Pastel Painting Camp at Menucha, OR: Art camp! Immerse yourself in pastel painting at art camp, presented by Creative Arts Community at Menucha. This is a wonderful experience with lodging and meals all inclusive. We'll use the fundamentals of painting as a jumping off point and paint both in the studio and out on the beautiful grounds of Menucha. This workshop will have limited space. It will fill quickly as it's a really great value. Registration does not officially begin until spring but contact them if you're interested. Check their website for registration dates.
Oct. 1,2,3, Wine Country Mentoring Retreat, Dundee OR: This special, small group retreat is designed for painters with some experience. This workshop will concentrate on cultivating a visual sensitivity and making a unique statement about your subjects. Lots of one on one mentoring and a unique opportunity for a community experience with other artists. It will be held at the very private Maresh Red Hill Vineyard Retreat. It will be limited to only eight students. Cost including accommodations $500.

Palette Makeovers - 2 hr. minimum 40.00 per hour or bring a friend and split the time.
Bring your pastel palette and the papers you use. I'll make recommendations on how to flesh out your palette; what's missing from it, how to make it stronger and work better for your style of painting. I'll make suggestions for working in the studio and or plein-air. This will include a one on one look at my studio set-up, so you can incorporate some of these ideas in your own space.
Take Action Critiques - 50.00 per hour or bring a friend and split the time.
Private critiques- bring up to 8 pieces for a one on one critique session. This will be a positive critique, (I don't give any other kind), to help you take real steps to making your work stronger, looser and more dynamic. I don't say things like, "I don't like this part, but I just don't know why". I'll give real advice for real steps towards the work you want to create!
